Round up, round up.

3 Apr

A small round up of my inbox treats from the last few days, Fred Falke is EVERYWHERE these days… And better than ever for it. The Erol Alkan preview is immense, and along with the Freemasons new one, I can’t wait to hear this. Talking of the the Freemasons, i’m seeing them in Brighton on Thursday… Event is here on Facebook. It’s only £5 and will be rammed. Tickets have sold out already… Yaya.

Yeah Yeah Yeah’s – Zero (Erol Alkan remix preview)

Fever Ray – If I had a Heart (Fuck Buttons Remix)

Esser – Work it out (The Shoes Remix)

PNAU – Embrace ft. Ladyhawke (Fred Falke Remix)

Yeah Yeah Yeah’s – Zero (N.A.S.A Remix)

Sneaky Sound System – I Love It (Fred Falke Remix)

Adele and Kylie

7 Jun

Yeah not really much effort on their behalves, more from the amazing people that have remixed their fairly average songs..

Kylie Minogue – The One (Freemasons Edit)

And then High Contrast have done a simply amazing remix of Adele’s Hometown Glory. I’m just waiting to get the file from someone as we speak as I can’t get hold of it anywhere. But, if you go to this and listen from 1hr36mins onwards you can hear it. Brilliant.

Just One Of Those Songs

Orbital – Halcyon + On + On

I suppose it has just been one of those weeks.

Camille Dalmais will get me through my last week of Uni…

27 May

Yes, that’s right readers. I might actually have finally finished my degree by Friday at 12pm. Thrills! Watch this space..

I got recommended Camille on Saturday went home and downloaded three of her albums, haven’t stopped listening since. She’s been around since 2002 signed to Virgin and released Les Sac Des Filles in 2004, going on later that year to start collaborating with Nouvelle Vague’s Marc Collin. In 2005 she went on to release Le Fil which is an absolutely amazing, rare style of album. It has a thread (or drone) that stays the same the entire way through and only uses double bass and a keyboard to go with the vocals, it’s like a voice exploration album, quite something i’m sure you’ll agree.

My favourite song is Money Note which is basically taking the piss out of that incredibly high note that only Mariah Carey seems to be able to hit. You can have a listen to it here and here is a song from her Le Fil:

Camille – Ta Douler

NB. To anyone that may compare her to Bjork, please don’t.

Calm Before The Storm

15 May

Just milling around before my hectic 3 day gig extravaganza-photo taking-dancing weekend.
Stumbled across this man who has been releasing podcasts for a while now and his bootlegs and mash ups get some good airplay.
I found these absolute GEMS on his ebrotunes podcasts:

MSTRKRFT – Bounce (Ft. N.O.R.E) (thanks to RCRD LBL website)
Go Home Productions – Physical Graffiti

Ego Punks do a wicked 30 minute remix session that you can only get on his podcast page, which includes some Dirty Disco Youth, Plimsoul’s and a great remix of Basement Jaxx vs. Scraaatch; their mini-mix starts at around the 27minute mark here.

Operator Please, Take 2

16 Apr

I’m going to now devote an entire post to this week’s favourite band – Operator Please. I know, I know, I have spoken about them a couple of times before, I’m just really excited about seeing them on the 18th May at Great Escape performing at Water Margin (what a stupid name for a venue) as I reckon they’re going to be quite good live… ANYWAY. Here are some of their hitzzzzz… including, as always, some remixes.

Ghost
Zero Zero
Crash Tragic
Catalogue Kids
One Yellow Button
Leave It Alone (NYPC remix)
Get What You Want (Sportsday Megaphone Remix)
Just A Song About Ping Pong (On The Prowl Remix)

Oh, and isn’t it kind of RealBrighton to let me cover all the Great Escape gigs that I want to go to!

Does it offend you, YEAH?

16 Apr

I don’t really have much else for you than these:

M83 – We Own The Sky (Maps Remix)

Annie – Heartbeat (Royksopp remix)

Muse – Map of the Problematic (Does it Offend You Yeah? Remix)

The Danger remix of Sebastian Teller’s Divine is actually amazing. But I can’t link it anymore as I got asked to take it down. Search away Internet geniuses..
(I think that Van She, Danger and The Shoes should have a ‘mix-off’ as I cannot quite choose who’s stuff I like more.)

I got told to listen to ‘Rosey‘ the other day, she is a Jazz singer, and quite good actually.
Rosey – Love (Koop Remix)

Also, Joan As Policewoman is releasing a new album in June, Hoorah! This is quite old news, but alas, I forgot. I missed her last time she was in Brighton so I have already got my sights on a ticket.

Next week, I shall be giving you a nice little run down of the best people (in my humble opinion) that are playing at Great Escape in Brighton, and where they are playing too as they just released the full line up.
Yup.

Funday Monday

Not many people can cover the White Stripes… But Nikka Costa gives it a good go:
Nikka Costa – The Denial Twist

S.P.A – Pet’s Dance (Thoughtless Hussies Remix)

Headman – Catch Me If You Can (Tronik Youth Remix)

The Mystery Jets – Hideaway (Switch Remix)

The Teenagers – No Love (Delorean Remix)

Dizzee Rascal – Sirens (Black Light Remix)

Gotan Project – Mi Confession (Edu K Drop The Bass Remix)

Is it weird that I quite like that ridiculous Beeper song….?

I am hearing rumours that Prodigy are playing the amazing 3am set at Summercase. Am also really excited about the Great Escape happening again in Brighton May 17-19Th, last year, we managed to see Adele at Red Roaster, Bonde Do Role and Scroobius Pip supporting Kate Nash at Pressure point, Nouvelle Vague at the Corn Exchange and also managed to blag our way into the (ticketed) T4 Music show that they held at the Udderbelly. Saw The Gossip, Scissor Sisters, Cold War Kids and Bat for lashes all rather sureally in a giant purple upside down cow on the Old Stein… This year, the Speigeltent is back as well, Hercules and Love Affair are rumoured to be playing one night so I know it’s going to be another good weekend in May. In the Udderbelly which is apparently going to be opposite Hectors house, there is going to be a Silent Disco which is something I’ve wanted to go to for a long time.

No-no-notorious.

My computer is SCREWED. So therefore I don’t know how often I am going to be able to update in the next month or so… oh, and that little matter of my ever pending Dissertation. SO. Here are some lovely remixes and a wicked cover from the fabulous Hot Chip:

Hot Chip – Sensual Seduction (Snoop Dogg Cover)

For some reason, I really like Moby’s Disco Lies. But, even better is this remix:
Disco Lies – Spencer and Hills Remix

NOISE:
Hearts Revolution – CYAO (Paparazzi Remix)
Kill The Noise – Hey You (Paparazzi Remix)

Ladytron – Play Girl (Felix Da Housecat Glitz Clubhead Mix)

What is it with Eastern Europeans and their dirty, dirty Electro?
Maral Salmassi – Fire Gem (Fukkk Offf Remix)

BearBot – Quality Pipes – I don’t really know how to describe this… no-no-no notorious? I like it.

So, finally, in anticipation of an amazing gig at Audio on the 20thPopJustice have given us a remix of Daft Punk’s Digital Love performed by not ONLY Alphabeat, but FrankMusik too! Hooray!

Have you seen the Summercase 08′ Line Up?!
Primal Scream, Hot Chip, M.I.A, SEX PISTOLS!, 2ManyDJ’s, CSS, Mystery Jets (my personal favourite), Tiga, and Santogold!
Plus more but I don’t care. This is enough excitement for me.

Thank you – MissingToof

Operator, Please.

The Teenagers remix of For My Two Seconds By Operator Please

Operator Please – Just A Song About A Ping Pong (Kissy Sell Out Remix)

Jenny Wilson – Let My Shoes Lead Me Forward (The Knife Remix)

Maps – You Don’t Know Her Name

Today I heard possibly the first ever compilation album that I might consider buying. Well, I won’t buy it but you know what I mean – Future Pop is one of those compilation CD’s that actually has some decent music on it. And that is what has been getting me through my terribly boring task of writing my dissertation.
So thanks.
