Lights

28 Feb

Lights is the eagerly awaited debut album from Ellie Goulding released this week. With a huge amount of hype being built up via her huge support from music blogs giving her a massive amount of free PR with some fantastic covers and remixes released over the last year, I was hoping for something a bit more… varied maybe, especially with backing from Producers Neon Gold who have released some amazing records this last year.

It’s hard to fault any of Starsmith’s bedroom produced songs too much as they are really very good but having released maybe the best few songs way before the album release (and with far less production), it’s all sounding a bit normal. Maybe it’s from all the said hype, the Brit award, topping the BBC’s ‘Sound Of 2010’ poll all the attention and pressure to release an album ASAP that Goulding’s first effort hasn’t really hit the right note. It’s clearly been a busy year for Goulding but maybe it’s not been long enough to release an album. We’ll see.

Great Escape 2010

2 Feb

Great line up news for Brighton’s Great Escape festival has been slowly leaking out over the past few days. Seems like the main headliners so far will be Ellie Goulding, Delphic, Slow Club, Broken Social Scene and Marina & the Diamonds. Drum and Bass and breakbeat giants Chase and Status are also on the bill, suggesting that the festival may be a little more varied in music genres than previous years.

Get your tickets here before the price goes up anymore, at a rather reasonable £45 for a whole weekends worth of music.

A pretty stunning and simple B Side to accompany Ellie Goulding’s new single Under the Sheets:

Neon Gold dropped the new Ellie Goulding song around the blogs this last week, it’s a good one. Featuring production from Starsmith it’s literally shimmering.

I also did an interview with her which you can read here.

Ellie Goulding Interview

So I may have disapointed some of you by taking down the new Starsmith and Goulding collaboration of Starry Eyed, but to make up for it, there is a nice bit of bedtime reading for you if you click the link below. I got in touch with Ellie Goulding to ask her a few questions about her… well just about her really. Look forward to some Madonna style epic tour production (fingers crossed) and what would be an awesome collaboration between Goulding and Bon Iver. I can almost hear the perfection now. So click the quote below to see what she has to say for herself… Just don’t mention Cerys Matthews yeah.

“I need a band, any suggestions? Must like the series “Nighty Night” and play like Minus the Bear on acid. Oh, and must like T-pain.”

Guns and Horses

13 Feb

Another Welsh female singer for your aural delights, Ellie Goulding describes her music as “folk songs that got tangled up in a bush with some synthesizer,” She is currently supporting VV Brown on tour, (who I just found out wrote some of the Sugababes songs..!) which is a pretty good start, supporting VV Brown, not writing for The Sugababes that is.
